SILK AND SADAAK – by Roberto Angov

What do you do when one of the biggest Bollywood production companies such as Eagle Films India calls you in the morning and asks for a story which takes place in India and Germany? I can tell you. You better have some good ideas, write them down in a screenplay of 180 pages and send it asap without asking for anything else than the privilege to work together with giants like Umesh Mehra, Gulshan Grover, Amrita Rao or Saif Ali Khan.

Rahul has a dream: His songs and his voice shall conquer the world and change it for better. The truth is, however, that his musical skills and his singing voice are nonexistant! Thus he finds solace in dreams of a world of his own making, far away the the rough banality of country life in rural India. But life deals him a hard blow when he manages to loose his family’s entire fortune overnight, a result of being too trustful of his boss Nihar.

Bild 6He has to earn back the money immediately to save his family and his sister’s wedding. The only hope is his best friend Marc from Berlin. And Marc has an instant offer for Rahul: A job in a Grand Hotel right inside Berlin!

Without hesitating or looking back Rahul leaves his village in India goes on a trip to the German capital, where everything is so different than he ever expected, has been afraid of or dreamed about…
Things are so tidy, modern and, well, much more complicated here in the western German world. And soon he has to face some tough questions: How to really get a job and keep it? How to conquer or at least catch the attention of the women of his dreams that he meets there? And what should he do now that he lost everything again and is locked away in a German prison cell?

Rahul learns some hard lessons on his unpredictable and exciting journey to Berlin. He has to overcome his naivety. And he learns to do that. But even more: He learns that overcoming naïve and thoughtless manners does not mean to leave your dreams behind.

Not only manages he to solve one of the biggest cases of robbery in Berlin, he also catches more than just the attention of Anjali, the woman he fell in love with… And above all, his lifelong dream is coming true: His music really starts to conquer the world, as he finds others and uses their voices and musical skills to bring his
songs to life.

So, when he finally returns home to be with his dieing mother in her very last moments he has earned much more than just the lost money…
