ENGLEWOOD – by Roberto Angov

It took Roberto Angov more than expected to finish this screenplay (1 year, what a shame) for an Islandic-American production, but he did it, finally. All in all, two versions are available for the producers: an English and a German one. Sounds complicated? Well, it was…

Bild 6Violence, terror, crime. For years now, TV journalist Lara Brendan has reported on the general state of mayhem at large in today’s world for the action-news network, Story TV. However, she’s had just about all she can take of the images of brutality that go along with the job. She’s ready to quit the industry once and for all. What she really wants is to relocate with her boyfriend, Roland, to Englewood, a picturesque New York suburb, and get a fresh start.

But rather than resigning, she gets reeled in by her shark of a boss, Lou Sanders, to take on one last assignment that promises to be “the most spectacular story of them all” – for this is the story that her father, Peter Brendan, was working on just prior to his disappearance. Lara can’t turn down Lou’s offer and gets started immediately, taking a flight to Iceland that very day.

Bild 8Roland is oblivious to the latest developments in Lara’s life. He assumes that she has lost her nerve at the last second yet again and has proven herself incapable of sticking to her guns…

… Meanwhile, Lara has arrived in Iceland. Assisted by Steve Broker, a rookie reporter with Story TV, she begins to look into the case.

Her research leads her inland to a secret underground tunnel system. However, Lara has had a bad feeling about the whole thing right from the start. The more she looks into the matter, the more things go awry. And Steve is becoming increasingly peculiar with each passing second. Lara discovers that things on the island aren’t quite as they seem. Yet one thing is certain: she is on the verge of breaking a major story, although she has no idea just how personally significant or massive it really is.

Bild 10As Lara discovers what actually happened to her father and the real reason for Lou’s interest in the matter, she realizes that she can no longer live her life as she has been. The days of her doing what is expected of her are over. She is the master of her own destiny and free to do what she wishes. Hopefully, Roland will back her up, given that he too has decided to follow his heart…
